Dave Dickey - Martial Artist - Instructor - Fight Choreographer
I grew up in a rough area outside of Boston Mass. My older brother taught me how to fight. I have lived on both coasts and have studied many martial arts systems. Kendo, Hapikdo, Muay Thai, Western Pugilism, and Medieval Wrestling to name a few. Presently, I run two martial arts studios and am a coach in the International Bare Knuckle Boxing Association.
1970 - 1972 Wrestling and boxing in middle school.
1970 - 1973 Joined local boxing club run by YMCA. Fights were monthly.
1975 Moved To California from Boston, MA.
1980 - 1990 Began my Asian studies which included Hapkido, Muay Thai, Kendo and Tae Kwon Do.
1980 - 1985 Competed in kickboxing events including several California Nationals and the World Silver Cup.
1985 - 1990 Continued my Asian studies while no longer competing. Extra time spent on exploring Western Martial Arts.
1990 - 1996 Began my Western studies which included Historical Swordfighting, Medieval Wrestling and 1800’s Pugilism. Also became involved with stunt work at local festivals.
1996 - 1998 Moved to Pennsylvania and continued Historical Swordfighting and hand-to-hand combat training. Became a member of the American Society of Fight Directors. Taught several classes through local community adult school to juniors and adults.
1998 - 2002 I taught private self defence lessons and historical swordfighting to both men and women.
2003 Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame Instructor Nominee
2002 - 2008 I founded my first school, Live Steel Fight Academy, with branches in Pottstown and Philadelphia, PA and Salisbury, MD. The curriculum involved a variety of martial arts to men, women and juniors. Swordfighting, Boxing, Medieval and Catch Wrestling which evolved over the years to include kickboxing and MMA.
2008 - 2009 Competed and coached in submission wrestling events including Grapplers Quest and Naga.
2009 Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Fame Nominee
2009 - 2010 Official For The United States Kickboxing Association.
2010 Moved back to California. I founded Toxic Training. Also in 2010 I opened “Southbay Sword Fighters”, teaching historical swordfighting and hand-to-hand combat.
